"McGuire, a Nashville area native, has had several leadership positions within the council, including serving as the Council's president pro tem. The president pro tem serves in the absence of the vice mayor and is elected by the entire council. The position is generally reserved for second term Council members, however McGuire was selected by the Council for the position in his first term. At the age of 29, he was the youngest president pro tem in the history of Metro Government."
